The Broward County Energy Sense Appliance Rebate Program requires program participants to remove their old appliance by either recycling or disposal. Since the goal of the rebate program is to save energy as well as help protect the environment, the County strongly encourages recycling your old appliance. By doing so, participants can avoid contaminating Broward County natural resources.
Here are a few ways that you can recycle your old appliance:
- Ask your retailer to recycle your old appliance when you purchase your new ENERGY STAR appliance.
Many appliance retailers will pick up and recycle your old appliance when you purchase a new one. Ask your retailer if this opportunity is available when you purchase your new appliance.
- Ask your municipality about pick-up of old appliances.
The majority of the County’s municipalities offer bulk trash pick-up and recycling of your appliance. Contact your municipality directly to find out more information about pick up.
- Recycle your appliance at Broward County Transfer Station.
The County Trash Transfer Stations offer free disposal and recycling of appliances to the residents of all Broward cities except Hallandale Beach, Parkland, Pembroke Pines and Pompano Beach. The stations are open for bulk waste and appliance disposal on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They are located in Pompano Beach, Davie and West Park. For maps and details go to Trash Transfer Stations.
- Recycle your appliance at a Broward County Landfill.
The Southwest Regional Landfill is located at 7101 S.W. 205th Avenue in Fort Lauderdale and is open from Monday to Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Appliances are accepted for disposal and recycling. There is a disposal fee depending on the quantity and type of material being dropped off. Residents of all Broward County cities are eligible to use the landfill except for Dania, Hallandale Beach, Parkland, Pembroke Pines and Pompano Beach. - Talk to a local scrap metal recycler.
