RANGE AIDE

NATURE OF WORK

This is limited technical, security and maintenance work assisting in the safe operation and upkeep of a County firearms range.

Work involves assisting Range Attendants in providing services to range patrons, such as informing patrons of proper range usage, conducting skeet and trap flights; and collecting receipts to verify that fees have been paid.

Employees in this class assist in enforcing range rules and regulations; perform maintenance functions of the range equipment, buildings and grounds; and assist in providing for the safety of the public utilizing the range. Work may also include preparing incident reports.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Pulls flights for skeet, trap and sporting clays; loads clay target machines; provides support for the Range Attendants in the supervision of patrons at the rifle and pistol range.


Performs minor maintenance duties in order to keep the facility in a clean and safe condition.

Prepares incident reports as necessary.

Assists in providing for the safety of employees and patrons utilizing the firearms range.

Assists in collecting funds received from fees and sales of gun range equipment and accessories.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of the standard rules and regulations relating to the use of firearms.

Some knowledge of the operational safety and maintenance requirements of typical hand and shoulder firearms.

Some knowledge of the standard rules and regulations of skeet, trap and sporting clays.

Ability to demonstrate safe firearm and target range use procedures to patrons and staff.

Ability to safety load and reload skeet and trap machines.

Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially.

Ability to instruct individuals and groups in the proper care and use of firearms.

Ability to receive cash and make change with accuracy and speed.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively with the public.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of BrowardCounty's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.

Skill in the use and care of firearms, trap, and skeet.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Successful completion of job related tests. Six (6) months experience in the care and use of firearms desired.
