GROUNDS CURATOR

SUMMARY:  
 
Under general to limited supervision, will work with Parks Manager and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor (GMS) to determine, initiate and maintain policies and procedures concerning the care, maintenance and operations of sports grounds, including cricket grounds.

TASKS :

• Maintains the quality, appearance, cleanliness, safety, functionality and usability of the cricket facilities within the Parks system on a continual basis.
• Recommends the purchasing and procurement of supplies and equipment for the support of the cricket pitches, grounds, and practice nets in the Parks system.
• Ensures and instructs staff that procedures and guidelines regarding the safety of personnel are observed and are carried out to safety standards.
• Ensures that operating procedures and guidelines are carried out in all activities regarding the maintenance, preparation and operations of the cricket facilities in the Parks system.
• Develops, reviews and maintains short- and long-term maintenance and preventative maintenance plans for cricket facilities within the Parks system that reflect appropriate principles, policies, priorities and economic realities.
• Helps with annual budgets for Cricket facilities in the Parks system.
• Demonstrates continued interest in and knowledge of advancements in the science of preparation and maintenance of the cricket pitches and grounds.
• Presents a professional and neat appearance at all times.  The attire will be the standard Parks uniform.
• Ensures that all cricket facilities are presented according to accepted standard for the grade of cricket being played and, in particular, according to International Venue Agreements requirements with respect to International Cricket.
• Together with Parks Manager and GMS, the curator will maintain a Library of Procedure Manual and guidelines governing the Policies and Operations of the Cricket Facilities.
• Ensures his/her availability to carry out the venue reviews on the agreed periodic basis and provide reports thereafter of the preparedness of the facilities for use.
• Other duties and tasks as requested by the Parks Manager or GMS
 
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS – REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE (Applicants are expected to possess the required Knowledges, Abilities, and/or Skills listed below prior to being hired for positions in this job title.)

• The individual in this position must be a highly-motivated individual with a proven history of accomplishment
• The individual in this position must possess a technical knowledge sufficient to accomplish the described duties in an efficient, safe, and proficient manner.  This includes an understanding of facilities maintenance, pitch and grounds maintenance, and horticulture.  It also includes an understanding of safety practices and procedures.
• The individual in this position must be able to operate maintenance-related hand and power tools, light equipment and medium to heavy equipment.
• The individual in this position must be able to effectively train and supervise in a positive and constructive and professional manner consistent with the policies and procedures of the Parks Division.
• The individual must work with and coordinate activities with the GMS II and Maintenance staff.
• The individual must have the ability to demonstrate and impart to staff and to outside service personnel and/or contractors the requirements of the work to maintain and prepare the pitch and grounds.  Cooperation and teamwork is essential.
• The individual should be very organized, self-motivated and well maintained work areas.
• The individual must have good communication and computer skills.  Good communication skills include, but are not limited to, having good listening skills, excellent oral and written comprehension, and good speech clarity and recognition when dealing with others and when communicating on the phone, two-way radio or other forms of communication.
• The individual must possess the ability to react quickly, effectively and logically in high-stress or emergency situations.
• The individual must be able to make competent decisions based on experience and knowledge and/or advice from others.
• The individual must be physically capable of safely operating the variety of tools and equipment used in the operations of a cricket pitch and grounds and accomplishing the duties and responsibilities outlined above.
• The individual must be able to tolerate extremes in outdoor temperatures and weather conditions.
• This position may require heavy lifting and moving repeatedly.
• The individual must be able to work while bending, crouching, kneeling, or balancing while maneuvering tools, supplies and equipment.
• The individual must be able to provide flexible working hours when necessary and may have to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends or holidays.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.
 
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS – NOT REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE BUT EXPECTED TO BE DEVELOPED ON THE JOB:    (The following Knowledges, Abilities, and/or Skills listed below, although considered to be necessary in order to perform the work of this job title, are not required at time of hire.)

•    Knowledge of safety procedures for mixing/applying a variety of pesticides and fertilizers.
•     Ability to work with limited supervision.
•     Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs. without assistance.
 
REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: 

Formal training in the maintenance and preparation of Cricket Pitches and Grounds or related field, five (5) years’ experience in the cricket pitch and grounds maintenance field, and two (2) years in a supervisory capacity, and or an equivalent of relevant education and experience.   

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Possession of a valid Florida driver’s license.
