NATURE OF WORK
This is technical lead work in the enforcement of zoning and other land use codes.
Incumbents conduct field inspections of new and existing sites for conformance to various zoning and land use codes.
Work involves coordinating, reviewing and participating in the investigation of complaints and violations of various zoning and land use codes. Supervision may be exercised over a staff of code enforcement officers by assignment and review of completed inspections and by providing assistance in unusual or difficult areas of code interpretation. A superior reviews work through an analysis of work reports.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This classification is distinguished from a Code Enforcement Officer by the limited supervisory responsibilities over subordinates in the review and investigation of complaints and violations and by the increased experience requirements.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Reviews daily reports submitted by subordinates for completion of work assigned and the compliance with codes and procedures.
Conducts investigation of complaints and violations involving zoning, land usage and various related public complaints.
Coordinates and reviews the results of buildings, signage, land use and fence permit inspections.
Coordinates and participates in field investigations to determine compliance with zoning regulations and other land use codes.
Inspects new and existing sites for conformance to County ordinances.
Reviews construction and inspection plans for compliance with ordinances and regulations specific to area of assignment.
Performs related work as required.

Considerable knowledge of the legal, administrative and procedural regulations applicable to the area of assignment.
Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of the geography of Broward County.
Ability to maintain regulatory records and to prepare and submit reports.
Ability to supervise and review work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to read and interpret residential, commercial and industrial building plans and specifications relating to land use and zoning provisions.
Ability to recognize deviations from code requirements and from established policies and procedures; takes appropriate action when necessary.
Ability to understand and follow complex written and oral instructions.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school; considerable experience in code and zoning enforcement work applicable to area of assignment; some experience in a lead worker, supervisory or administrative capacity; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Completion of Levels I and II certification through the Florida Association of Code Enforcement.
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
State of Florida Blasters License; Broward County Blasters License as required by job assignment.
Xeriscape certification as required by area of assignment.
