This position is responsible for administrative work assisting in planning, organizing and directing the activities of the Port Everglades' Business Development Division, specifically Communications and Community Relations.
Work involves assisting the Division Director in administering programs to manage Port corporate communications, media relations, and community relations as well as overseeing Port advertising and special events and supporting inbound trade delegations.

This position plays a significant role in supporting the Division Director with direct customer engagement (cruise and cargo), administrative duties, and budget development and monitoring.
Work is performed with considerable independent judgment, but in close collaboration with the director and other team members, both within and outside the Business Development Division.  The position supervises up to three staff. 
• Assists in directing the operation of the Business Development Division, including and Communications andCommunity Relations Section.
• Serves as the public information officer for the seaport, assisting in the promotion and marketing of Port services and facilities.
• Prepares presentations for and representing the Director of Business Development and/or Port Everglades Chief Executive/Port Director at various intergovernmental, trade, and community relations activities.
• Develops and manages a section budget of approximately $1.0 million.
• Oversees the performance and professional development of subordinate staff.
• Acts as spokesperson for all media inquiries, setting up interviews for the Port Everglades Chief Executive/Port Director, Director of Business Development and/or other senior managers with local, national, and international media and trade publications.
• Provides marketing services support to the Business Development Division.
• Oversees advertising for cruise, cargo, and public affairs.
• Provides government relations support to the Chief Executive/Port Director’s Office and County Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.
• Oversees public outreach programs including staff speaker’s bureau, special promotional events and Port tours for the public.
• Prepares and distributes news releases, promotional publications and informational materials; develops and makes presentations at public and private forums on seaport issues.
• Oversees development and maintenance of the seaport’s website, social media, marketing materials and promotional collateral.
• Acts as Director of the Business Development Division as needed in the Director’s absence.


Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of public communications.
Thorough knowledge of the methods of conducting public information and community relations programs.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of advertising and marketing.
Knowledge of the international goods movement and cruise industry.
Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to develop effective speeches, position statements and in-house presentations.
Ability to make public presentations and communicate technical information to a variety of audiences.
Ability to organize and supervise projects and/or special events requiring simultaneous multiple tasks.
Ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to high performance and team morale. 
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, political affiliation, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, pregnancy, or gender identity and expression.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in marketing, journalism or closely related field; six (6) years progressively responsible experience in public information or public relations preferably in the maritime and/or international trade and logistics industries, including four (4) years of high level supervisory and administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
