CURATOR



General Description

The purpose of this class within the organization is to highly specialized and responsible work specific to the managing of artifact collections.

Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

Maintains responsibility for a collection of artifacts and archival materials.

Recommends objects or collections of interest for acquisition.

Confirms the authenticity of accepted collections items.

Catalogs acquisitions and keeps records.

Displays objects or collections for presentation to the public.

Plans, organizes, interprets and presents exhibitions and lectures.

Writes materials and articles for publications and for the website.

Effectively handles inquiries from researchers and the public website management.

Performs related work as assigned.

Physical Demands

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office or shop machines or tools within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in history, museum studies, public history or related field.

Requires two (2) years of experience in artifact collections management, or archival management and exhibitions.

None.

Emergency Management Responsibilities
