COMPUTER OPERATIONS ANALYST

NATURE OF WORK

This position is responsible for resolving operations related hardware and software problems encountered on a daily basis, recording these problems, and insuring that the problems do not become repetitive situations, thus eliminating sustained periods of disruption to all the users of the data-processing community. Position requires the ability to write, implement, and maintain operational procedures, and be the interface between the Technical Support Group, Programming Staff, and Computer Operations, as required and defined by the Operations Manager. Incumbent may supervise operations staff. Work is reviewed by an administrative superior through evaluation of results achieved.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Resolves, records, and tracks all hardware and software problems encountered on a daily basis, interacting with vendors and users, and resolving same in an expedient manner.

Studies Data Center work flow and makes recommendations to the Operations Manager.

Writes, implements, and maintains all operational procedures required for operations.

Recommends Data Center operational standards.

Records space available on Direct Access Devices.

Ensures all system backups are executing, and corrects if not properly being executed.

Reviews system logs on a daily basis corrects potential problems and notifies appropriate user and/or vendor of same.

Creates management awareness to areas having consistent or numerous problems.

Provides special support in the areas of printing and microfiche as required by the Operations Manager.

Interfaces with management regarding new hardware and software products being installed on current systems and evaluating the need for future upgrades on existing equipment.

Performs related work as required.



KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Considerable knowledge of computer operations.

Considerable knowledge of all in-house equipment.

Considerable knowledge of applications used in the Office of Information Technology.

Ability to analyze and resolve computer hardware and software problems.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from high school supplemented by college level course work in data processing; four (4) years experience in computer operations including two (2) years experience in system analysis; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
