GRANTS RESEARCH COORDINATOR

NATURE OF WORK

 

This is highly responsible professional and administrative work involving planning, coordinating and directing research, training, and coordinating grant development activities.   Provides administrative oversight, coordination and preparation of federal, state and local grant activities.

 

Work also includes coordinating grant-seeking activities, conducting periodic internal quality assurance/quality improvement audits on grants, overseeing and liaising with any grant research software company, conducting training in the areas of grant program development, research and evaluation best-practices, specialized project support, asset mapping, needs assessments, database development and maintenance, and research, as requested.

 

The position requires exercising independent judgment in operational procedures, strategic planning, and development of a coordinated grant-related structure.   The position supervises professional and clerical staff assigned to the unit.   Work is reviewed by an administrative superior through conferences, observation, reports, and program achievements.

 

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

 

Coordinates grant related activities for the purpose of strategic planning, making funding recommendations, and writing applications for funding.

 

Prepares and implements operational procedures for research, grants administration, and grant writing functions as well as training and technical assistance.

 

Coordinates grant writing activities for federal, state, and local funding for the County.

 

Oversees the development and maintenance of a grant database and library of grant-related information for tracking and reporting purposes.

 

Prepares statistical reports and analyses which may involve using computer based spreadsheet applications; analyzes and prepares reports.

 

Assists in developing and implementing strategic goals, including those of the Division.

 

Liaises with internal grant recipients to ensure compliance with programmatic and federal regulations.

 

Coordinates grant-seeking activities with County staff involved in developing grant applications.

 

Prepares budget recommendations for the unit and may assist in developing the Division’s annual budget.

 

Plans, assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned subordinate personnel.

 

Represents the Division at various workshops, meetings and conferences.

 

Performs related work as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

 

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of management and their application to the administration of governmental affairs.

 

Considerable knowledge of the standard principles and practices in the field of research, grants administration and grant writing.

 

Considerable knowledge of the grant application procedures and regulations for federal, state and local governments.

 

Considerable knowledge of sources of information, current literature and recent developments regarding research and planning.

 

Considerable knowledge of strategic planning approaches, quality improvement strategies, and program evaluation.

 

Considerable knowledge of supervisory and modern office practices.

 

Considerable knowledge of work flow planning, computer-based applications used in research, such as statistical software and spreadsheet applications.

 

Considerable knowledge of the development and evaluation of grant programs.

 

Ability to analyze statistical data and perform planning research.

 

Ability to create presentations of data and/or research findings, including written reports, using computer based applications, including spread sheets, Power Point, and/or similar applications, as needed.

 

Ability to supervise and coordinate the work of professional and administrative support personnel.

 

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

 

Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field closely related to this assignment; five (5) years of experience in strategic planning, research, grant writing, and/or grant administration which includes two (2) years of supervisory and administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
