TRANSIT SUPERINTENDENT - FACILITIES MAINTENANCE

NATURE OF WORK

This is responsible administrative and supervisory work in the skilled maintenance, repair, overhaul, and cleaning of mass transit facilities and equipment.

Work involves directing the activities of subordinate supervisory personnel, trades and unskilled workers with emphasis on the efficient utilization of personnel, material, equipment, and facilities. The incumbent exercises independent judgement concerning job priorities and methods and materials to be used on each project. Work is performed under the general supervision of an administrative superior. Performance is reviewed through conferences, written reports and general observation.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Plans, directs and coordinates work; establishes priorities in the maintenance, repair, overhaul and cleaning of mass transit facilities and equipment.

Supervises subordinate supervisory personnel, trades and unskilled workers engaged in facilities maintenance and repairs.

Directs the implementation and maintenance of record keeping including preventative maintenance of equipment and facilities.

Assists in the drafting of specifications for equipment and facilities modification.

Insures the availability of parts or other material necessary to complete work.

Ensures adherence to local, state and federal regulatory requirements as applicable to area of assignment.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of facilities, repair and overhaul of equipment and maintenance.

Extensive knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of equipment and facilities.

Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards, and the local, state and federal rules and regulations applicable to assigned work.

Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision, organization and administration.

Ability to plan and execute a preventative maintenance program.

Ability to plan, assign, organize, and review the activities of subordinates.

Ability to prepare clear and concise oral and written reports.

Ability to supervise the work of subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from high school; nine (9) years experience in the maintenance, construction, repair and overhaul of equipment and facilities including four (4) years experience in the supervisory aspects of the work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
