MICROGRAPHICS TECHNICIAN I

NATURE OF WORK

This is specialized clerical work in the operation of microfilm machines, readers, film processors and related micrographic equipment.

Employees in this class are responsible for photographing various legal documents for record retention. Work involves the preparation of materials to be photographed and the adjustment of the equipment to the proper settings. Supervision and assistance are received from a technical or administrative superior who periodically checks completed work for legibility of the finished product, adherence to established procedures, and the completion of assigned work load.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Operates an automatic microfilm camera with a fixed or adjustable photographic field for the reproduction of documents and records; loads and unloads camera film; adjusts and makes minor repairs to photocopy equipment.

Operates and threads an automatic film processing machine; operates a microfilm reader to verify all photographic reproductions with official records for completeness and legibility of the finished product; makes full-size prints of plats and maps on a large document duplicating machine; supplies record information to court personnel by use of a microfilm reader.

Inspects legal instruments and records to be copied for numbering, legal stamps, smudgings, wrinkles, and staples.

Makes certified copies of such documents as military discharges, deeds, mortgages, marriage certificates, and official court records.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Some knowledge of microfilm and film processing.

Some knowledge of the operating principles and maintenance needs of microfilm machines, readers, film processors, and related photocopy equipment.

Ability to maintain production standards and work flow.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to do routine clerical work, including filing and records retrieval.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

Skill in the operation of basic photocopy equipment.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; some experience in the operation of microfilm equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
