NATURE OF WORK
This is routine work in the operation of a large delivery truck or van used to pick up and deliver library materials.
Employees in this class are responsible for operating a vehicle to pick up and deliver books, mail, records, materials, monies, equipment or other items to designated library facilities throughout the county. Responsibilities include performing minor vehicle maintenance and servicing. Work requires some manipulative skill and dexterity in operating a vehicle safely while driving under varying road and weather conditions. Work is performed under general supervision of a supervisor, but employee is expected to work independently and to exercise sound judgement and initiative in the performance of work assignments. Employees in this class may have lead worker responsibilities for other library delivery persons or subordinates.
This classification is distinguished from the position of Library Delivery Person by the lead worker responsibilities associated with the position, as well as the additional experience required.
May supervise or act as lead worker over a group of Library Delivery Persons or subordinates.
Operates a large truck or van on an assigned route to deliver and pick up books, mail, packages, records, materials, equipment, monies, bus transpasses and other materials at various county library locations.
Performs minor routine maintenance and services to vehicle including checking fluid levels, tire pressure and fuel levels; cleans interior of vehicle on a regular basis; keeps records of maintenance checks.
Lifts packages and bins weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lifts packages in excess of 50 pounds.
Loads and unloads materials; sorts bins and delivers to proper department in Main Library.
Completes route sheets and mileage reports.Assists supervisor with planning, organizing and controlling work flow.
Performs special pick ups and deliveries.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of local traffic regulations.
Knowledge of defensive driving methods and techniques.
Knowledge of the location of county branch and regional libraries.
Knowledge of the records, forms and reports required in the area of assignment.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to make minor decisions independently.
Ability to operate a vehicle safely and efficiently.
Ability to lift packages and bins weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally to lift packages in excess of 50 pounds.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
Skill in the operation of an automotive vehicle.
Some skill in the operation of a personal computer.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Successful completion of job related tests. Two (2) years experience in the operation of a motor vehicle desired.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid Class D Florida Driver’s License.
