NATURE OF WORK
This is janitorial work supervising a crew of custodians.
Work involves the responsibility for supervising a crew of custodians who perform a wide variety of janitorial functions throughout county buildings and facilities. Employees in this classification schedule and assign work and train new employees. Work assignments are received from a superior with some latitude allowed for planning work methods and scheduling. Work is reviewed through inspections of buildings and facilities maintained.
Supervises a crew of custodial workers and participates in the routine cleaning of buildings and premises.
Assigns, supervises and inspects the sweeping, mopping and polishing of floors; makes inspections of housekeeping work and orders such corrections as necessary.
Patrols assigned areas to check on necessary maintenance work; reports needs to superiors.
Maintains records and reports.
Trains new employees.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS
Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment employed in building custodial and related work.
Knowledge of the operation, use and care of vacuum cleaners, scrubbing machines, polishing machines, and other janitorial equipment.
Ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
Ability to maintain records and reports.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and
appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
Graduation from high school; experience in janitorial or related work including experience as a lead worker; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
