NATURE OF WORK
This is supervisory work involving groundskeeping activities.
Work involves responsibility for assigning and supervising the work of subordinate maintenance personnel in a variety of grounds maintenance tasks. Work includes supervision of personnel engaged in turf maintenance, gardening, and other grounds maintenance activities. Work is performed with independence within established policies and procedures. Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of areas maintained.
Supervises the maintenance of grounds and landscaped areas.
Supervises maintenance personnel engaged in lawn cutting and turf maintenance; supervises cleanup and litter control in parks.
Supervises the transplanting, planting, pruning, and trimming of trees, shrubs, and plants.
Instructs crews in methods of performing tasks assigned.
Maintains records and reports of labor, equipment, and materials used.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of the practices, methods, tools and equipment used in caring for soil, grasses, plant fertilization and gardening.
Ability to supervise the work of crews engaged in grounds maintenance work.
Ability to receive and execute written or oral instructions.
Ability to instruct work crews in actual tasks to be performed.
Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school; four (4) years experience in cultivation and care of grounds, plants, shrubs and trees; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Certification as an applicator of restricted-use pesticides by the State of Florida as required by assignment.
