Before The Event     During The Event     After The Event     Resources

Before the Event
  • If you plan to leave the area of the storm be sure to gather your important papers, such as homeowners and car insurance documents.
  • Make sure the vehicle you plan to tak is in good mechanical condition. Keep oil changes up to date and make sure the fluid levels are topped off.
  • Make sure the tires are in good condition. You will be driving on rain soaked roads and excessively worn tires could make driving conditions treacherous.
  • Make sure you have a full tank of gas.
  • Make sure you have cash available.
  • Plan your evacuation route and make necessary hotel reservations in advance.
  • When traffic signals are not working, drivers should treat intersections as four-way stops to prevent chaos.
  • It is not necessary to report downed traffic signals. Broward County Traffic Engineering's damage assessment teams will be aware of outages and dispatch repair crews as quickly as possible.
