Designation Applications

An application for designation of a historical, architectural, archaeological, or paleontological resource site, district or zone must be completed by the applicant and submitted to the Historic Preservation Officer.

The Historic Preservation Officer will review the application and make a determination of "completeness."  All applicants are encouraged to contact the Historic Preservation Officer for a pre-application meeting prior to the submittal of an application.  Once an application has been determined "complete," the nomination will be scheduled for a public hearing before the Historic Preservation Board.  If the nomination is approved, the Historic Preservation Board shall forward a recommendation for designation to the Board of County Commissioners.  Designation of a resource site, district or zone is by final action of the County Commission.

The Historic Preservation Program staff is available to provide assistance with the designation and permit applications. Please call us at 954-357-9731.
