Salary range:  $81,108 – 133,016  (dependent on qualifications)

The Office of Broward County Medical Examiner and Trauma Services is seeking a Chief of Medical Examiner Operations (CMEO) responsible for planning, organizing and directing all line operations of the County's Office of the Medical Examiner. The CMEO will report directly to the Chief Medical Examiner and be responsible for all administrative functions including, but not limited to, policy, personnel, resource management, logistics, safety, public affairs, security, communications, contracts, and all other non-scientific functions. The CMEO will supervise an administrative staff of up to ten. 

The Broward County Office of Medical Examiner & Trauma Services is one of 24 medical examiner districts in the State of Florida. The annual budget for FY 2014 is approximately $5.7 million and is composed of a staff of approximately 40 personnel including forensic pathologists, investigators, photographers, toxicologists, administrators and trauma services.

Requirements  

This position requires graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in Criminal Justice, Hospital, Public or Business Administration or related field and six (6) years experience in death investigation programs including four (4) years high level supervisory and administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Position also requires a valid Florida driver’s license. 

Additional Information 

Candidates with experience in business and hospital administration are preferred. Experience and knowledge of all federal, state and local regulatory requirements applicable to vital statistic recordation, laboratory operations, public records laws and rules of evidence, death investigation systems, and direct experience working in a medical examiner’s office is desirable. All education and experience must be documented.    

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience and is accompanied by an attractive benefits package including participation in the Florida Retirement System.
