SECURITY GUARD I

NATURE OF WORK

This is routine work safeguarding County buildings, facilities and other property. 

An employee in a position allocated to this class is responsible for safeguarding the public and employees in County facilities.  Work involves guarding and patrolling an assigned area to protect property against possible loss or damage from theft, trespassing, fire, vandalism or other hazards.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Patrols an assigned area in a county building or facility.

Secures doors and windows and report fire hazards.

Inspects buildings and other facilities to guard against theft or damage.

Checks obvious malfunctions of electrical equipment and alarms and report same.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft Office).

Some knowledge of standard security procedures.

Some knowledge of fire extinguishing method.

Ability to physically perform assigned security duties with alertness.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to multitask with little or no supervision.

Ability to use tact in enforcing regulations.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's

Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

One (1) year experience in security work.

Florida Class ā€œDā€ Security Officer License is preffered but not required.
