NATURE OF WORK
This is security work in safeguarding county installations and operations.
Work involves the patrolling and inspection of assigned areas and the operation of a county parking lot facility. Work is subject to review in progress by a superior.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Patrols an assigned area in a county building or facility.
Operates a parking lot toll booth.
Collects parking fees and file numbered tickets in sequence. Secures doors and windows and report fire hazards.
Inspects buildings and other facilities to guard against theft or damage.
Checks obvious malfunctions of electrical equipment and alarms and report same.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Some knowledge of standard security procedures.
Some knowledge of fire extinguishing method.
Ability to physically perform assigned security duties with alertness.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to operate a cash register as required by assignment.
Ability to use tact in enforcing regulations.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school; some experience in security work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
