CARPENTER II

SUMMARY :   Under general supervision, performs a variety of journey level carpentry work in maintaining County facilities.

 

TASKS :

·         Troubleshoots facility maintenance/repair problems in order to identify the nature and extent of the maintenance/repair problem, identify the type of repair/preventive measure needed, identify potential safety issues, and determine if other trades workers are needed.

·         Builds a variety of cabinets, counters, shelves, book cases, and related items in order to meet the storage needs of the user, minimize cost to the County, and/or meet special user needs.

·         Replaces/installs a variety of doors, ceilings, and windows in order to provide/maintain a safe/secure work environment and/or maintain and acceptable appearance of work/public areas.

·         Installs/repairs a variety of floor coverings in order to maintain a safe environment and/or maintain acceptable appearance of the area.

·         Reconfigures office space in order to accommodate changes in staffing and/or Department space needs.

·         Repairs a variety of file cabinets, drawers, locks, and related equipment in order to maximize useful life of the equipment and ensure the equipment operates safely and correctly.

·         Repairs/installs a variety of hardware, including door closers/hinges, wall brackets, signs, office equipment, display cases, locks, thresholds, etc. in order to comply with Americans With Disabilities Act accessibility regulations, ensure doors open/close properly, maintain security, and/or ensure a safe work environment.

·         Interacts with the public and County employees in order to answer questions or identify their service needs.

·         Performs related work as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS – REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE : (Applicants are expected to possess the required Knowledges, Abilities, and/or Skills listed below prior to being hired for positions in this job title.)

·         Knowledge of established safety procedures for using a variety of tools and equipment associated with skilled carpentry work.

·         Knowledge of tools and equipment used for a variety of skilled carpentry work.

·         Knowledge of types of materials appropriate for use in carpentry projects and repair activities.

·         Knowledge of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

·         Knowledge of types of materials appropriate for use in a variety of roof repair activities.

·         Knowledge of tools and equipment used for a variety of concrete repair work.

·         Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions regarding the operation of tools/equipment used in completing a variety of skilled carpentry projects.

·         Ability to operate tools/equipment used in completing a variety of skilled carpentry projects.

·         Ability to lift and carry up to 60 lbs. without assistance.

·         Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division.

·         Ability to analyze problems and identify possible solutions.

·         Ability to perform routine maintenance/repairs on tools/equipment used in completing a variety of skilled carpentry projects.

·         Ability to determine the tools/equipment needed to complete the assigned project.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS – NOT REQUIRED AT TIME OF HIRE BUT EXPECTED TO BE DEVELOPED ON THE JOB:    (The following Knowledges, Abilities, and/or Skills listed below, although considered to be necessary in order to perform the work of this job title, are not required at time of hire.)

·         Knowledge of safety procedures for storing/disposing of a variety of hazardous materials.

 

REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:  

Successful completion of job related tests.   Two (2) years journey level construction and/or maintenance carpentry work, or completion of an accredited course/apprenticeship in carpentry desired.  

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:  

Must possess a valid Florida Driver = s License.
