This is entry level technical work assisting in the installation, adjustment, maintenance, modification and repair of instrumentation equipment, PLC's, computers and peripherals, electronic control mechanisms, A/D converters, pneumatic/hydraulic controllers, encoded digital frequency shift telemetry and related communications equipment.

Work involves assisting in the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of a variety of equipment and control mechanisms. Employees follow prescribed methods and procedures but are expected to exercise independent judgment regarding the more routine phases of repairs and adjustments. Instructions relating to work assignments may be oral or written and may be accomplished by sketches, schematics, and electronic/electrical diagrams. Supervision is received from a technical superior who reviews work for the satisfactory performance of the equipment installed, maintained, or repaired.


Assists in maintaining and repairing a variety of electronic, hydraulic/pneumatic, and automatic control devices, sensors, records, meters, detectors, and specialized testing devices.

Assists in performing on site troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance to the instrumentation devices, including bulb changes, controller lubrication of motorized valves and flow transmitters.

Assists in installing, adjusting and maintaining medium high and ultra high frequency alternating and direct current radio receivers, transmitters, and auxiliaries according to diagrams, drawings and sketches, assists in installing and testing special equipment such as antennae, frequency monitors, microphones, cable and electrical interference suppressors.

Assists in installing, adjusting, and maintaining alternating and direct current devices, sensors, records, analog/digital parameter transmitters and receivers.

Assists in testing faulty equipment, and applies knowledge of functional operation of units and systems to diagnose and repair to component level the cause of malfunction.

Performs related work as required.


Some knowledge of the principles and theories of electrical/electronic and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment as applied to instrumentation devices and digitally encoded radio equipment. Some knowledge of the standard tools, materials, methods and practices of the instrumentation and electrical/electronics trade.

Some knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the instrument, electrical/electronics and chemical trades and of work with a variety of voltages.

Ability to interpret and work from technical sketches, schematics and circuit diagrams.

Ability to identify causes of malfunctions and to repair or replace faulty parts and equipment.

Ability to climb considerable heights and work under conditions of considerable heat, noise, and dampness.

Skill in the care and use of standard tools, equipment, and specialized instrumentation testing devices.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.


Graduation from high school; some experience in the electronics, electrical or instrument trades; or any equivalent combination of experience and training.


Possession of a general radio/telephone operator's license issued by the Federal Communications Commission as required by assignment.
