NATURE OF WORK
This is specialized, independent operations work involving a considerable amount of public contact in the dynamic environment of a county-owned airport.
Work involves ensuring a safe, efficient, and secure environment for passengers, airport personnel, vehicles, and equipment in compliance with state, federal and international aviation security regulations and the Airport Security Plan. Duties include working rotating shifts and assignments, including holidays and weekends. Work requires communication with airport users, tenants, federal, state, local government and other agencies. Work is performed within general guidelines and reviewed for compliance within established standards.
This classification is distinguished from Airport Operations Agent by the additional specific aviation security knowledge required.
Maintains awareness of aviation security compliance conditions and responds within appropriate guidelines to any non-compliance issues.
Monitors and assists in the coordination aviation security issues to ensure compliance with established rules, regulations, policies and procedures and contractual tenant leasehold requirements. Issue Notice of Violations (NOV) as appropriate for non-compliance with regulations.
Monitors all automated equipment systems for fire, security and maintenance alarms ; making appropriate notifications when necessary.
Inspects and monitors airport equipment and facilities for security conditions; taking appropriate action when necessary to rectify unsuitable conditions.
Provides information, direction, and assistance regarding the use of airport facilities and airport tenants and users.
Conducts and/or coordinates escorts within both public and secured airport areas.
Ensures the proper control of persons and vehicles in restricted access areas of the airport.
Collects records and compiles information for statistical data on routine and emergency airport conditions relating to safety and security.
Produces specialized reports for security compliance and audit purposes.
Operates and maintains (as operator) county-owned vehicles, including 4-wheel drive, in an airport environment including responding to emergency situations.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of a modern air carrier airport environment.
Knowledge and familiarization of all airport areas, including those of tenant airlines, concessions, etc., and their functions.
Knowledge of the safety and security requirements of an airport supporting commercial aviation.
Ability to collect information and maintain records, reports and inventory.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to detect report and/or correct hazardous conditions.
Ability to perform work effectively with minimum supervision.
Ability to enforce rules and regulations with tact and diplomacy.
Ability to pass background check as required by appropriate governmental authority.
Ability to handle or move unattended luggage weighing up to fifty (50) pounds.
Ability to perform shift work in a 24/7 environment and respond as essential personnel in emergencies.
Ability to traverse and physically access remote and/or cramped airport areas, occasionally in adverse weather, and under emergency and stressful conditions.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of BrowardCounty's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, color, religion, age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, marital status or political affiliation.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Completion of two (2) years of college level course work in Airport Management, Aeronautical Science or related field; two (2) years experience in security operations, Aviation security experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License.
