DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SECURITY

NATURE OF WORK



This is highly responsible administrative and technical work in the information technology security environment.

This position requires strong theory background and operational experience in information technology security across a broad organizational range. Work requires planning, design and implementation of security measures which safeguard access to information technology assets. Position incumbent is responsible for Internet and Intranet security as well as network related security such as firewalls, password controls, and design. Work is performed independently with general supervision by the Chief Information Officer. Performance is reviewed periodically through conferences and written reports and results.



ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS



Develops strategies, policies and organizational responses to ensure deployment and maintenance of an information security architecture which meets current and future needs of County agencies.

Provides information security consulting to County agencies regarding security architecture, which could affect any part of the County's computing operations, and makes recommendations to ensure agency technology operations are compliant with security standards and policies.

Develops, manages, and maintains standard policies and procedures for technology security and activities within the County.

Establishes alternative security measures, if needed, to support disaster recovery efforts.

Provides management support for investigating and reporting breaches of security controls, and implements responsive measures to ensure continued compliance.

Provides ongoing training and informational meetings on the importance of maintaining appropriate security over information technology assets, and current security issues.

Administers management of critical issues that may affect customer agencies and completes status and statistical reports in assigned areas as required.

Develops and maintains Internet and Intranet security based policies and procedures.

Administers risk assessments and information security training to uphold enterprise security measures.

Performs related work as required.



KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS



Thorough knowledge of data processing, office automation and telecommunications.

Thorough knowledge of current software and hardware capabilities of a large scale database and data communications environment.

Thorough knowledge of the current trends and developments in the information technology security environment.

Ability to analyze complex operations and to organize and design their components into logical systems.

Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate the work of subordinates, and contract vendors.

Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.



REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING



Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, telecommunications, engineering, business administration, or related field; six (6) years administrative experience in system analyses, networking and computer operations; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
