GFLCVB VICE PRESIDENT

NATURE OF WORK

This is responsible, professional and supervisory work assisting the President of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau in the direction and operation of the Bureau.

Work involves the development and implementation of an annual conventions and meetings marketing plan for the Convention and Visitors Bureau. Position incumbent formulates sales and marketing programs for trade shows, sales missions and personal sales presentations to promote Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County as an attractive convention and meeting destination. Incumbent supervises sales managers engaged in marketing activities, and keeps local hospitality industry informed of bureau's activities. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines. Work is reviewed periodically through conferences, written reports and observation of results obtained.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Assists the President in the direction and operation of the Bureau.

Develops internal meetings and conventions marketing plan, develops internal sales and marketing systems and procedures, confers with local tourism officials to formulate plans, represents destination at the regional, national and international level, approves all sales and marketing expenditures.

Plans and coordinates all meetings and conventions promotions.

Directs and supervises the activities of marketing staff; sets goals and priorities and provides assistance during trade shows and marketing presentations.

Maintains effective networking relationships within the national meetings and associations industry and with the local hospitality industry.

Provides weekly input to the advertising agency regarding conventions, meetings and advertising matters.

Develops annual meetings and conventions travel promotion budget and monitors implementation.

Serves as acting president in absence of the president.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of tourism and convention marketing, advertising and public relations.

Thorough knowledge of sales and communications techniques.

Thorough knowledge of English usage and the requirements of press, radio and television broadcasters.

Ability to plan, direct and implement an effective marketing strategy.

Ability to communicate with and motivate subordinate Sales Managers.

Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

Ability to establish major departmental goals, translate them into individual goals and to establish appropriate strategic actions.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, political affiliation, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, pregnancy, or gender identity and expression.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in marketing, business administration or related field; six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in tourism, marketing, advertising or sales work, including four (4) years high level supervisory and administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
