WEB SITE DESIGNER

NATURE OF WORK

This is highly skilled computer graphics design work. Work involves developing and maintaining Broward County agency web site pages. Work requires artistic and technical skills in developing complex web site pages for both the Internet and Intranet. Work is performed with independence within the scope of professional methods and procedures to accomplish assigned projects. Supervision is received from an administrative superior who reviews work for attainment of desired results.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Designs, maintains and develops complex, web site pages utilizing artistic and technical expertise.

Meets with representatives from County agencies to plan web site projects.

Implements time-sensitive updates to web site information from all County agencies.

Designs and recommends technical solutions based on Internet technologies; identifies improvement needs and develops solutions.

Researches new technologies for web site enhancements in HyperText Markup Language (HTML), sound, video, animations, and other related features.

Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS

Thorough knowledge of the principles, methods and techniques used in developing web sites.

Thorough knowledge of technical requirements in web page production (including graphic creation/optimization and animation).

Considerable knowledge in the operation of a computer and the use of computer software programs for creating artistic web site pages in a variety of formats.

Considerable knowledge of HTML, java, javascript, and digitizing video techniques.

Ability to create, design and develop web pages and web sites for the Internet and Intranet.

Ability to create the overall navigation flow, layout of specific pages, and creation of individual graphic elements for web site pages.

Ability to work independently, plan, organize and execute assignments with minimum supervision.

Ability to organize and coordinate multiple, time-sensitive assignments, and to maintain work records.

Ability to conduct research, organize, analyze, prepare and present technical information.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Completion of two years of college level course work in commercial art, graphic design or related field; six (6) years experience in commercial art, including experience in operating desktop publishing software programs; including four (4) years experience in web site development and in the creation of HTML and related documents; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
