NATURE OF WORK
This is advanced technical work in computer aided drafting utilizing computer resources and computer files, as well as manual drafting in the preparation of various engineering drawings, technical and graphic materials.
Work involves performing complex drafting assignments for professional and technical superiors. Work may also involve reviewing the work of CAD Drafters. Work requires the exercise of considerable independent judgment in resolving routine situations with a superior available for assistance on problems encountered of a complex technical nature. Work requires considerable job knowledge and skill in carrying out assignments. Work is subject to review upon completion by a professional superior for technical accuracy and attainment of desired results.
Prepares preliminary and final drawings and plans for construction projects using ink, pencil and computer drawing techniques as required; performs routine layout work; sets preliminary grades; computes traverses; tabulates quantities and cost estimates; calculates cut and fill.
Prepares contract documents and drafts of legal descriptions, prepares tax map revisions, assessment rolls and grade sheets.
Prepares and assembles detailed maps and/or prepares graphic presentations utilizing rough or detailed sketches, notes and available graphic computer files.
Assists in coordinating engineering drafting functions with other departments.
Provides technical assistance and guidance on work methods and procedures to less experience personnel engaged in related work.
May review the work of CAD Drafters involved in the preparation of preliminary and final plans, drawings, and specifications for a variety of projects.
May perform manual drafting.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques and instruments of drafting and CAD drafting.
Considerable knowledge of mathematics through trigonometry and its application to engineering computations.
Considerable knowledge of construction specifications and plans and applicable regulations relating to various construction projects by contract.
Considerable knowledge of the basic principles of civil engineering as they relate to topographic surveying and drafting.
Knowledge of graphics computer principles, equipment and techniques.
Ability to plan and supervise the work of technical assistants in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
Ability to perform technical computations, analyze complex data and prepare plans and reports based on findings.
Ability to prepare technical and complex engineering drawings, both manually and computer aided.
Ability to read maps, aerials and/or legal descriptions.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
Skill in the use of engineering instruments and equipment both manually and computerized.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school, supplemented by college level course work in manual and computer aided design and drafting; four (4) years experience in sub-professional engineering drafting including two (2) years experience in computer aided design and drafting; or any equivalent combination of relevant training or experience.
