This is specialized technical work involving systems implementation of computer aided drafting and design. (CADD)

Work involves operating and maintaining drafting software, files and data bases. Work includes selecting and developing CADD software applications and system trouble shooting. Employees in this classification may supervise. Work is performed under the supervision of a professional superior and is reviewed for accuracy, technical knowledge demonstrated and achievement of desired results in completing advanced design and drafting applications.


Develops project drawings using AutoCad software and maintains a library of project drawings.

Assists professional engineers in the development of plans and the review of CADD generated drawings submitted by outside consultants.

Provides training of CADD software for division personnel.

Serves as liaison to outside consultants regarding all CADD generated drawings.

Serves as liaison with authorized software dealer; researches current market trends and makes recommendations to purchase and update hardware and software.

Performs System Administrator duties including backing up, trouble shooting, loading software, and maintaining software library.

Prepares reports on status of software and system status.

Develops or enhances additional software for space planning.

May supervise staff engaged in detailed computer drafting and data input to ensure effectiveness and accuracy of work.

Performs related work as required.


Thorough knowledge of the standard terminology, techniques and practices of engineering drafting.

Thorough knowledge of the basic principles and concepts of public planning or engineering.

Considerable knowledge of mathematics including algebra, trigonometry and plane geometry.

Considerable knowledge of computer operating systems.

Considerable knowledge of database and spreadsheet software, including AutoCad, Archibus and Arccad software.

Ability to prepare technical and complex engineering drawings.

Ability to make complex mathematical computations accurately.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and sketches.

Ability to plan and supervise the work of technical assistants in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.

Ability to analyze computer related problems and find solutions.

Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.

Skill in the use of a computer and related drafting software.


Completion of two years of college level course work in drafting, computer graphics, civil engineering or planning; six (6) years progressively responsible experience in computer aided drafting and design systems operations; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
