NATURE OF WORK
This is limited technical work in the collection and processing of data of an engineering or planning nature.
Work involves performing mathematical computations associated with traffic engineering or planning related data collection field work. Duties require the application of knowledge of a limited technical area of an engineering, planning or associated field acquired through training or experience. Specific assignments are received from a technical or professional superior and may be accompanied by oral or written directions. As experience is gained, greater independence is allowed in carrying out recurring assignments. Work is reviewed for technical accuracy in progress and upon completion.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Performs field work in the investigation of requests and in the collection and reduction of data.
Prepares work orders as needed to implement solutions to engineering or planning problems, subject to review by immediate supervisor.
Makes sketches of traffic intersections and street channelizations.
Makes sketches of proposed solutions of assignments.
Assists superiors in the interpretation and presentation of data collected.
Maintains records of completed plans and documents.
Provides information to the general public relating to engineering or planning data maintained by the County.
Operates calculator.
Prepares and updates maps and graphs.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the standard terminology, techniques, and practices of traffic engineering.
Knowledge of the basic principles and concepts of traffic engineering and/or planning.
Knowledge of mathematics including algebra, trigonometry and plane geometry.
Some knowledge of engineering maps, records and data processing.
Ability to make moderately complex mathematical computations accurately.
Ability to engage in field work for extended periods and occasionally under adverse weather conditions as necessitated by work assignments.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and sketches.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification including or supplemented by course work in planning or engineering; experience in the collection, presentation and interpretation of data appropriate to the area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
A valid Florida Driver's License is required.
