NATURE OF WORK
This is supervisory work involving directing the operations of the Libraries Division delivery service.
Work involves supervising a group of subordinate employees in a variety of delivery tasks. Duties include coordinating loading dock operations and delivery service activities. Independent judgement and initiative is exercised in conformance with established operating policies and procedures. Work is reviewed through conferences, observation of work activities and reports.
Supervises and directs subordinates in a variety of delivery activities including the pick-up and delivery of books, equipment, packages, monies, bus transpasses and other materials.
Coordinates delivery and pick-up schedules in accordance with volume of deliveries and established procedures.
Prepares statistical and task activity reports.
Prepares required documentation and secures branch monies and returned bus transpasses for transfer to the accounting section/Main Library.
Reviews and analyzes log reports, motor pool cost reports and vehicle inspection reports.
Recommends loading dock and delivery procedures in accordance with established policies.
Oversees the maintenance checks of vehicles assigned to section.
May be required to lift packages weighing up to 50 pounds or more and equipment; performs special pick-ups/deliveries.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Considerable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of the road network and geography of Broward County.
Knowledge of local traffic regulations.
Knowledge of location of county branch and regional libraries.
Ability to perform management details with only general supervision.
Ability to supervise a large group of employees.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to lift packages weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.
Ability to operate an automotive vehicle safely and efficiently.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.
Some skill in the operation of a personal computer.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school, including or supplemented by course work in business subjects; four (4) years experience in deliveries and clerical work, including supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of a valid Class D Florida Driver’s License.
