NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible supervisory work in the operation of the Traffic Engineering sign shop.
Work involves supervising the production of a variety of traffic signs, planning and directing the design of sign layout, the requisitioning of materials, and inspection of finished products. Supervision is exercised over a staff of sign shop technicians by assignment and review of work. Assignments are received in the form of written work orders and stock requisitions. Work is reviewed by the Traffic Signs Superintendent for efficient and economical completion of work.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Assigns work schedules for traffic sign fabrication.
Requisitions the necessary supplies and materials for traffic control sign fabrication.
Supervises the design and layout of traffic control signs and special mounting structures.
Maintains all sign shop inventories and standard work and cost records.
Assists warehouse personnel in maintaining finished product inventory.
Assists in the fabrication of traffic signs.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools and equipment of sign fabrication including the standards outlined in the manual on uniform traffic control devices.
Considerable knowledge of mounting hardware and structures for traffic sign fabrication and installation.
Ability to maintain machines and equipment used in sign production.
Ability to organize and supervise the work of subordinates.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and
appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability or political affiliation.
DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school, supplemented by course work in drafting and/or sign fabrication; considerable experience in the production and installation of traffic signs including supervisory experience related to sign shop management and the use of computerized sign making equipment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
