NATURE OF WORK
This is responsible supervisory work in the installation and maintenance of traffic signals and controls.
Work involves supervising traffic signal electricians. The employee prepares work schedules, selects proper materials to be used, tests wiring diagrams, and inspects all materials used in the electrical section of the Transportation Department.
Duties include reviewing, inspecting, and coordinating the work of outside contractors and utility companies as it affects the county’s traffic signal system. Assignments are received orally and in the form of engineering drawings.
Work is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of work results.
Supervises the installation and repair of traffic signals, controllers, conduits and wiring, and street lights.
Supervises and participates in the adjusting of controllers for proper phasing.
Makes recommendations for improvement in design, installation, and maintenance practices.
Reviews the work of outside contractors and utility companies.
Issues and requisitions various electrical supplies.
Maintains records and prepares reports.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of outdoor electrical wiring and repair work, cables, pole erection and installation of power.
Thorough knowledge of the use and repair of all types of traffic signal controllers.
Considerable knowledge of state and city traffic codes as they pertain to traffic signals.
Considerable knowledge of the principles of supervision and organization.
Ability to keep abreast of the latest advances in the traffic control field.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and wiring diagrams.
Ability to organize and supervise the work of subordinates.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of BrowardCounty’s Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from high school supplemented by college level course work in electronic technology; six (6) years experience in traffic signal technician work, including four (4) years experience in the supervisory aspects of the work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Possession of an IMSA Level I Certificate and a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement is required.
