This is a specialized position which performs both administrative and maintenance tasks in carrying out the Transit Division’s Warranty Program.


Under general supervision, processes all paperwork and performs parts handling functions as required for the Transit Division’s Warranty Program; schedules warranty work for repair and/or modification of vehicles and equipment; coordinates work plan and parts and materials availability with Maintenance Superintendents, Inventory Control Supervisors, and Suppliers; monitors and documents work performed by vehicle and serial number, date and function codes; completes work packages and input into computer, performs related work as assigned.


Work involves preparing records, and submitting warranty claims to the factory and/or distributor and reconciling them accordingly. Work includes initiating or coordinating, monitoring and/or evaluating all activities relative to the fleet warranty program.




Assumes program responsibility for administering the warranty program for the Transit Division.


Processes warranty claims on a timely basis for Broward County Transit Division.

Performs analysis of trends and repeat failures.


Interprets and explains warranty policy regulations and operating procedures to staff.


Reviews all paperwork to ensure proper documentation.


Verifies criteria required by the factory or distributor.


Reconciles warranty receivables.


Resubmits all rejected claims promptly.


Follows up on payment of outstanding claims.


Tracks warranty parts by tagging with repair orders.

Arranges for parts to be shipped to vendor.


Performs related work as required.




Considerable knowledge of principles, practices and methods of warranty administration; external vendor relations and repair procedures; transit vehicle maintenance procedures, parts repair methods, and inventory control processes; working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance programs.


Considerable knowledge of operational characteristics of passenger buses and one year experience in transit bus repair.


Ability to work independently; scheduling maintenance activities and coordinating parts flow for transit vehicles in warranty; monitoring and tracking spare parts through the repair processes; interpreting maintenance records, coding incidents, and inputting information into a computer.


Ability to maintain clear, accurate and detailed records and files with ability to type or keyboard and utilizing spreadsheets, word processing, and similar programs.


Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with maintenance personnel suppliers and others in the course of the work.


Ability to make rapid and accurate arithmetic and time computations.


Ability to understand, interpret, and effectively communicate oral and written instructions in English and to speak clearly with good diction.


Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County’s Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.


Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, political affiliation, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, pregnancy, or gender identity and expression.




Must possess a valid Florida CDL and a satisfactory driving record and be able to drive throughout employment and to obtain and maintain authority to drive on County business.




Associate Degree from an accredited college with major course work in business or public administration, economics, accounting or a closely related field.   Five (5) years administering a vehicle maintenance warranty program including two (2) years coordinating maintenance and repair activities and monitoring material inventory in a transit vehicle repair shop environment.
