NATURE OF WORK
This is managerial, administrative and technical work in the planning, development and implementation of a large scale, County-wide local area network (LAN), as well as the management of microcomputer automation projects.
Work involves responsibility for planning and managing County-wide local area network activities. Duties include reviewing and approving local area network designs and related technical recommendations, recommending cost effective solutions to needs requirements, researching, evaluating and recommending new local area network technologies, and developing County-wide standards and policies for local area network implementations. Work requires the supervision of professional and technical personnel. Work is reviewed by an administrative superior through conferences, reports and evaluation of results.
Manages, plans and coordinates the large and complex local area network (LAN) applications for various County agencies.
Establishes and implements the County's standards for local area networks.
Confers with various County agencies to determine broad and specific local area network needs.
Supervises and trains professional and technical staff involved in the installation and maintenance of local area networks.
Plans and develops future automation strategies ensuring that new technologies will integrate into existing County systems.
Directs the resolution of local area network problems ensuring that responses and results follow established policies and procedures.
Reviews requirements analyses and cost-benefit comparisons for automation projects.
Performs related work as required.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, business administration, or related field; four (4) years experience in the planning, management and maintenance of local area networks and microcomputer automation, including two (2) years experience in the supervisory and administrative aspects of the work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
