NATURE OF WORK
This is professional leisure travel, and convention sales marketing work with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Work involves the development of an annual leisure travel marketing/convention sales, and multicultural business development plan for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitor's Bureau. Position incumbent formulates sales and marketing programs for trade shows, and sales missions and sales presentations for travel agents and tour operators to promote Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County as an attractive tourist and convention destination. Incumbent supervises subordinate Sales Managers in the development and implementation of the marketing plan. Work is performed with considerable independent judgement and initiative within established guidelines. Work is reviewed periodically through conferences, written reports and observations of results obtained.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Promotes Greater Fort Lauderdale as a major meeting and convention destination for multicultural populations.
Develops marketing plans and strategies that target multicultural organizations and associations.
Implements a public relations program that promotes Greater Fort Lauderdale into multicultural markets.
Develops annual multicultural entertainment and "Sports & Leisure" vacation opportunities for the Greater Fort Lauderdale community.
Develops a plan of action that will provide opportunities in the multicultural business community and allow for greater economic growth from the tourism industry.
Identifies and develops partnerships with civic and community groups in an effort to attract a greater number of multicultural events and tourists to Broward County.
Maintains an active role in the local multicultural communities' as well as state and national industry related organizations and associations.
Conducts educational workshops designed to enhance local communities understanding of the tourism industry.
Directs and supervises activities of Sales Managers; provides assistance during execution of promotions and monitors results with appropriate reports to the President.
Develops annual travel promotion budget and monitors implementation.
Develops internal operating procedures for soliciting business.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing/sales techniques related to travel.
Thorough knowledge of all federal, state and local regulatory requirements applicable to convention/leisure travel marketing and sales.
Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of supervision, organization and administration.
Considerable knowledge of competing leisure travel and convention destinations.
Ability to prepare budgets, reports and supportive recommendations.
Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan, direct, and implement an effective marketing strategy, for specific target groups.
Ability to plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of subordinates.
Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in marketing, hospitality management, public or business administration, or related field; six (6) years experience in travel destination promotion/marketing including two (2) years experience in sales force management; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
