This is responsible, professional and supervisory work in promoting Fort Lauderdale as a premier meetings destination to clients based in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Mid-West USA, and to provide daily supervision of each satellite office.

Work involves the development of an annual marketing plan for Greater Fort Lauderdale.

Position incumbent formulates sales and marketing programs for trade shows, and sales missions, and sales presentations for travel agents and tour operators in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Mid-West USA to promote Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County as an attractive tourist and convention destination. Incumbent supervises subordinate Sales Managers in the development and implementation of the marketing plan. Work is performed with considerable independent judgement and initiative within established guidelines. Work is reviewed periodically through conferences, written reports and observations of results obtained.


Develops the annual marketing plan for promoting Fort Lauderdale; develops operating procedures for soliciting business.

Identifies and solicits business in all major market segments to clients in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Mid-West USA.

Plans and executes sales missions, trade shows, familiarization trips and site inspections, showcasing Greater Fort Lauderdale; maintains monthly activity reports.

Supervises the daily operation of each satellite office; trains, motivates, and manages regional sales staff.

Maintains effective networking relationships within the national meetings and associations industry.

Develops annual promotional budget and monitors implementation.

Serves as liaison between clients, convention center, area hotels, and governmental entities.

Performs related work as required.


Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing/sales techniques related to travel.

Thorough knowledge of all federal, state and local regulatory requirements applicable to convention/leisure travel marketing and sales.

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of supervision, organization and administration.

Considerable knowledge of competing leisure travel and convention destinations.

Ability to prepare budgets, reports and supportive recommendations.

Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to plan, direct and implement an effective marketing strategy.

Ability to plan, direct, coordinate and supervise the work of subordinates in the satellite offices.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.


Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in marketing, hospitality management, public or business administration, or related field; six (6) years experience in convention and hotel sales including four (4) years experience in sales force management; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
