NATURE OF WORK
This is professional leisure travel, and convention sales marketing work with the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Work involves the development of an annual leisure travel marketing/convention sales plan for the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau. Position incumbent formulates sales and marketing programs for trade shows, and sales missions and sales presentations for travel agents and tour operators in the Northeast USA to promote Greater Fort Lauderdale/Broward County as an attractive tourist and convention destination. Incumbent supervises subordinate Sales Managers in the development and implementation of the marketing plan. Work is performed with considerable independent judgement and initiative within established guidelines. Work is reviewed periodically through conferences, written reports and observations of results obtained.
Develops the annual domestic leisure travel and convention sales marketing plan.
Plans and coordinates all domestic leisure travel and convention sales promotions.
Identifies and solicits group business in all major market segments to clients based in the Northeast area of the USA.
Identifies, plans and attends all relevant trade shows/ missions to showcase Fort Lauderdale as a tourist as well as a convention destination.
Plans and conducts in-depth site inspections for client; plans and attends client familiarization trips.
Directs and supervises activities of Sales Managers; provides assistance during execution of promotions and monitors results with appropriate reports to the President.
Establishes and monitors major departmental objectives and individual goals; maintains monthly sales reports.
Maintains effective networking relationships within the national convention and leisure travel industry and with the local hospitality industry.
Provides input to the advertising agency regarding convention and leisure travel advertising matters.
Develops annual travel promotion budget and monitors implementation.
Develops internal operating procedures for soliciting business.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing/sales techniques related to travel.
Thorough knowledge of all federal, state and local regulatory requirements applicable to convention/leisure travel marketing and sales.
Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of supervision, organization and administration.
Considerable knowledge of competing leisure travel and convention destinations.
Ability to prepare budgets, reports and supportive recommendations.
Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan, direct, and implement an effective marketing strategy.
Ability to plan, direct, coordinate, and supervise the work of subordinates.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in marketing, hospitality management, public or business administration, or related field; six (6) years experience in travel destination promotion/marketing including two (2) years experience in sales force management; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
