NATURE OF WORK
This is professional management work for Community Relations and Outreach in the Office of Economic and Small Business Development.
Work involves responsibility for planning, assigning and coordinating professional staff in developing, implementing and administering the County’s Business Outreach Program. Employee in this class performs the research, planning, analysis, training and communications tasks necessary to administer the program and provides general direction to the work performed in the section. Work includes supervising the day-to- day activities of subordinate personnel in designing and implementing programs associated with the business outreach initiatives.
Employee in this class must exercise substantial independent judgment and decision making in planning and carrying out assignments. Work is reviewed through project achievements, reports, programs, and conferring with the Office director. Employee in this class must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS
Administers public outreach programs of the Office of Economic and Small Business Development.
Coordinates Office marketing with the efforts of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Alliance.
Plans and coordinates activities with the business community.
Serves as liaison to local agencies and municipalities on business community issues.
Develops, implements and updates procedures for business relations and outreach.
Prepares press releases, newsletters, reports and other publications.
Serves as ombudsperson for the local business community including responding to and facilitating solutions to business complaints, inquiries and requests.
Develops, plans and coordinates forums addressing business needs within the community.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of business and public administration principles and practices.
Thorough knowledge of county-wide policies and procedures governing public communication.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of management and supervision.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with elected and appointed officials, the public and the media.
Ability to plan, develop and implement outreach programs.
Ability to supervise the day-to-day activities of subordinate personnel.
Ability to prepare reports and disseminate information.
Ability to develop community interest and participation in activities through an active outreach program.
Ability to plan, coordinate and facilitate strategic advertising in coordination with public communications.
Ability to recruit, train and supervise community volunteers.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in public or business administration, communications or related field; six (6) years progressively responsible experience in marketing, outreach, or business development; including two (2) years supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
