This is field and office work in the development and promotion of countywide recycling, community enhancement, waste minimization and alternate disposal programs.

Work involves participation in outreach campaign to maximize divisional program efforts which includes participating in various special projects/events and assisting with the development of outreach tools. It also involves assisting with the monitoring of recycling contracts for compliance by contracted hauler and the promotion and development of commercial and multifamily recycling programs. Work is reviewed by inspection of field activity reports and program achievements.


Meets with representatives of commercial establishments and multifamily complexes to promote interest and discussion in starting a recycling program; assists with program implementation, promotion and monitoring.

Conducts waste audits by observing the source, creation and final storage methodology of the waste product.

Staffs Recycling Hotline as needed and responds to requests for program information.

Participates in various programs such as Children's Recycling Fairs, special events, Adopt-A-Street events, Community Cleanups, Waterway Cleanups and other divisional programs/projects.

Educates community groups, students and residents about various divisional programs through presentations at public meetings and special events.

Monitors school board and government buildings recycling contracts for compliance by contracted hauler.

Investigates and documents complaints received from schools and government agencies.

Provides program support by conducting research and field/phone surveys and other administrative functions.

Assists in the development of educational and outreach tools.

Prepares field activity reports and other reports and forms associated with recycling activities.

Performs related work as required.


Some knowledge of office practices and procedures.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to learn assigned tasks readily.

Ability to read maps.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to prepare concise and accurate written reports.

Ability to engage in field work for extended periods and occasionally under adverse weather conditions necessitated by work assignments.

Ability to make standard decisions in accordance with procedures and regulations and to apply them to work problems.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County's Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.

Skill in the operation of standard office systems and equipment.


Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university with major course work in environmental science, business or public administration, or related field; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.


Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
