This is highly specialized and responsible work specific to the managing of artifact collections.
Work involves responsibility for managing an archive, processing and arranging artifact collections, and preserving, indexing and cataloging materials.  Work is performed under the direction and supervision of the Broward County Libraries Division Libraries Manager.

Responsible for a collection of artifacts and archival materials.

Responsible for recommending objects or collections of interest for acquisition.

Responsible for confirming the authenticity of accepted collections items.

Responsible for cataloging acquisitions and keeping records.

Responsible for displaying objects or collections for presentation to the public.

Planning, organizing, interpreting and presenting exhibitions and lectures.

Accurately writing materials and articles for publications and the website.

Effectively handling inquiries from researchers and the public
Website management.
Performs related work as required.
Considerable knowledge of current practices in the care and management of archival materials and historical collections.
Knowledge of processes involving digitization.
Knowledge of, and ability to work with, tables and spreadsheets

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, managers, volunteers, community members, donors, and professionals in the community.

Ability to maintain close attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy and to detect errors quickly.

Ability to organize and implement projects/events effectively.

Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Ability to work with databases including a knowledge of Past Perfect.

Ability to lift objects of various weights and sizes.

Ability to follow County policies and procedures.

Ability to work effectively with Board members.

Ability to speak effectively to the public in a variety of forums such as workshops, training, and other presentations.

Ability to create PowerPoint presentations.

Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of Broward County’s Ethics and Conflict of Interest policies.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status, political affiliation, familial status, disability, sexual orientation, pregnancy, or gender identity and expression.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in history, museum studies, public history or related field.  Three (3) years experience in artifact collections management, or archival management and exhibitions, or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
