Director of Administration, Port Everglades

BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA

Salary Range: $81,108 - $133,016 (dependent on qualifications)

Port Everglades is the top seaport in Florida for international export trade, and a major economic presence in the South Florida region, generating nearly $15.3 billion a year in economic activity. Already the second busiest cruise port worldwide, Port Everglades is also one of the nation’s leading container ports and South Florida’s main seaport for receiving petroleum products including gasoline, jet fuel, and alternative fuels. Port Everglades supports more than 160,000 jobs statewide, including 11,300 direct local jobs. Exports from Port Everglades in 2011 totaled $13.3 billion.

The Business Administration Division is responsible for procurement, property management, business permits, franchises, human resources, labor relations, risk management, Foreign Trade Zone operations, and various other facets of general Port administration.

The Director oversees the work of a staff of over 20 employees including professionals and administrative support staff, and directs the planning, scheduling and coordination of Divisional activities. The Director has responsibility for developing, implementing, and maintaining strategic, fiscal and capital improvements plans for the Port’s Business Administration Division, prepares and administers the Division budget, manages all activities relating to contracts, leases, property management, Port franchise and parking facility programs, and coordinates purchasing, personnel, and recordkeeping activities.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate will possess extensive practical and leadership experience in planning, scheduling, and coordinating activities of an Administration Division, with a wide range of responsibilities, including the successful delivery of both individual projects and capital improvement programs. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate a thorough mastery of public administration including supervisory experience as well as a proven track record of working closely with both internal and external stakeholders and the general public.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in business or public administration or related field; six (6) years’ experience in public agency administration, including four (4) years high level supervisory and administrative experience; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.

Experience in a seaport or maritime environment is preferred.
