Broward County > Human Resources > Learning and Organizational Development

Learning and Organizational Development drives workforce planning and development in our organization. The Learning and Organizational Development Section provides educational support, internal consulting, facilitation services to guide groups in achieving organizational results, improved resource management, and performance training and development.

Training:

Learning and Organizational classes are aligned to the business goals of the organization. Classes are offered in instructor-led and computer based formats. Specialized training is available for intact groups.

FastForward: Gateway to County Management
The goal of FastForward: Gateway to County Management is to effectively and efficiently orient new or experienced managers to Broward County culture, policies, and management practices, as well as introduce them to the training required of their supervisors.

Positive Start Program
Newly promoted, first time supervisors or those who are new to supervision in Broward County are required to successfully complete a 12-module training program called “Positive Start.” This program is offered through Learning and Organizational Development and addresses the behavioral and technical skills necessary to be effective in a supervisory role. Current supervisors and managers are welcome to participate to refresh their skills and exchange knowledge, experience and expertise with Broward County’s frontline supervisors.

The Supervisor’s Apprenticeship: Skills for Rising Leaders™
The Supervisor’s Apprenticeship: Skills for Rising Leaders™ is a competency based program offered to individuals targeted as potential future supervisors. It will prepare the novice leader for his or her current role and position them for a move into a supervisory function. The Supervisor's Apprenticeship is aligned with the Positive Start supervisory training currently being offered.

Facilitation:

Broward County has an award winning internal facilitation model. Employees volunteer to participate in a two month Facilitation Skills Training course to learn the tools and techniques for guiding groups. After graduation, the participants become members of the Broward County Facilitators and give back to the organization by facilitating group meetings for internal agencies.
