Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program

The Broward County Community Action Agency provides assistance to low income Broward County residents through two federally funded programs, including the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program or LIHEAP, and the Community Service Block Grant, or CSBG.

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP)

The LIHEAP program provides qualifying low-income families with financial assistance for electric bill payments. Payments of up to $900 per year are available, depending on income and eligibility. LIHEAP application periods may periodically close, for example if current year funding is exhausted. To qualify for LIHEAP, gross household income must be at 150 percent of the federal poverty level or below. Therefore, according to U.S. Department of Health and Human Services poverty guidelines effective January 26, 2017, as published in the Federal Register of January 31, 2017​, eligibility requirements for LIHEAP is as follows:
