Before Event During Event After Event Resources

Before the Event

Women who are about two weeks from due date, considered high risk or otherwise concerned about their pregnancy when an emergency event with warning is looming, such as a hurricane, are advised to call their doctor to receive instructions or to make arrangements.

  • Contact your health care provider(s) to inform them of your status and location.
  • Be sure to have necessities for yourself and your baby packed in a waterproof bag. Take it wherever you go.
  • If you live some distance from the hospital where you are scheduled to be delivered, arrange to stay with a friend or relative who lives closer.
  • If you plan to leave town, bring a copy of your medical records including prenatal record, immunizations and current medication with you.  Pack maternity and baby clothes, prenatal vitamins and other medications.
