Before the Event

  • Students of the Broward County Public Schools, their parents and employees should monitor the school district’s website at www.browardschools.com or call the district hotline at 754-321-0321 for updated information on school schedules during an emergency.
  • Emergency information will be provided by the local news media, and also on WKPX Radio 88.5 FM and on BECON-TV (cable channel 19 or 70, UHF channel 63).
  • Students and employees of charter or private schools should contact their school for emergency information.

Schools As Shelters

Certain schools are designated as American Red Cross Mass Care Hurricane Shelters. They serve as places of refuge for residents and tourists whose homes or hotels are in the evacuation zone or are deemed unsafe. Shelter openings will be announced by the local news media.
