Marine Advisory Committee

Purpose

Obtain accurate and knowledgeable information concerning marine related matters within Broward County and advise the Board of County Commissioners and the Parks and Recreation Division on such matters.

Review and make recommendations regarding application for Broward Boating Improvement Program grants and use of funds retained by Broward County pursuant to Florida Statute 328.72(15), and Broward Administrative Code Part 15, Chapter 24.

Review and made recommendations regarding applications for Enhanced Marine Law Enforcement grants and use of funds retained by Broward County pursuant to Florida Statute 328.66, Broward County Ordinance 94-19 and Broward County Resolutions 94-285 and 94-1438.

Make a continuing study of all existing and future needs of Broward County regarding public marine facilities and services, and review and recommend plans and programs by which these needs can be met.​

Broward County Ordinance #76-2, enacted January 13, 1976.

Amended by Ordinance #2001-06, enacted February 13, 2001, increasing the membership from fourteen to eighteen.

Amended by Ordinance #2009-28, enacted April 28, 2009, after sunset review of its performance as required by Section 2.09 Broward County Charter retaining the Marine Advisory Committee, amending the meeting and quorum requirements to conform with Section 1-233 of the Broward County Code of Ordinances; amending the residency requirements.

Membership

Eighteen (18) members.

Each Broward County Commissioner shall appoint two (2) members.

Each member shall be a full-time resident and elector of Broward County; shall possess a reputation for integrity, responsibility, civic accomplishment, and professional or business ability; and shall have demonstrated an active interest in marine-related matters.

Notwithstanding the requirement for full-time residency in Broward County during the pendency of the appointment, such requirement shall be waived if the appointee is a part-time resident of Broward County. Similarly, the requirement that an appointee be a Broward County elector may be waived if the part-time residency requirement is fulfilled and the appointee is an elector in any Florida county.

Appointments to the committee shall be made with as wide geographical representation throughout Broward County as possible.

Any member of the committee who ceases to be a qualified elector or resident or who is elected to public office shall immediately forfeit his or her membership on the committee.

Terms

Section 1-233 of Chapter 1, Article XII, Broward County Code of Ordinances, as may be amended from time to time.

Quorum

A majority of the total members appointed to the committee.

A majority vote of those members present at any meeting shall be sufficient to enable the taking of any action.
