Deerfield Beach Percy White Library
Focus on Friends - Friends of the Deerfield Beach Percy White Library
The Friends of the Deerfield Beach Percy White Library began their efforts on behalf of the library shortly after it opened in 1960. Throughout the years, the library has been housed in three different buildings, and has also been retooled.

Meanwhile, the Friends group is stronger than ever.

The organization provides assistance to the library through a variety of special projects, funding of branch programming and materials, support of library staff, and advocacy for library issues.

The Friends staff a book shop which offers books, small gifts, puzzles, greeting cards and other items. Funds raised at the shop, combined with membership dues and donations, support the library in several areas.

The group has organized luncheons for Friends and volunteer recognition efforts.

Programming at the library is enhanced by contributions from the Friends. They fund children's programs throughout the year. Other successful programs have included a violin concert presented by the Piatigorsky Foundation. The Friends also provide refreshments at some library events.

Friends have purchased equipment and materials, including books for the library collection, bulletin boards, easels and a laptop computer with a projector.

Through the group's support, library staff members are able to attend professional conferences, meetings and classes.

As advocates for library issues, the Friends have sent representatives to Tallahassee for Library Days, and have worked to inform elected officials about the mission and needs of librarians.

The Friends have won multiple awards for their advocacy efforts throughout the years.
