Focus on Friends - The Friends of the North Lauderdale Saraniero Branch Library
The precursor to The Friends of the North Lauderdale Library was created in November of 1978 when Joan Friedman organized and opened an all-volunteer library.
She donated her own books, began to solicit funds and books from city residents, and lobbied for a donation of 5,500 books from Broward County. Friedman and her volunteers held book and bake sales and teen dances in an effort to bring books and readers together.
In March of 1981, the library became part of the Broward County Library system and the Friends continued their supportive efforts.
The group sponsors book fairs, the Florida Library Youth Program of summer-long activities for children, and staff and volunteer recognition events.
