Special Opportunities

Broward County residents come from all walks of life and have wonderful experience and knowledge to share with library patrons. Fortunately, giving back to your community by volunteering at your local library has never been easier, simpler or more fun!

There’s sure to be a library location in or near your neighborhood, where you can help in a number of ways, and with a flexible schedule that meets your needs. Many of our adult volunteers assist with shelving books and DVDs. Other opportunities include:

Each One, Teach One

Making a real difference in someone’s life doesn’t just change them – it also changes you! The Library’s Each One, Teach One program gives you the chance to teach another adult to read and/or write. Participants are required to complete training. For more information, or to register for training, call 954-357-6230, or e-mail learningservices@broward.org.

English Café

Like to chat? Volunteer at the English Café, a place where speakers of other languages can practice conversational English. For more information, call 954-357-6230, or e-mail learningservices@broward.org.

Creation Station Opportunities

Creation Station provides an environment to cultivate individuals interested in Technology, Music & Audio Production, Product Design, Social Media, 3D Printing & Prototyping, Graphic Design, Web Development, Image Editing, Marketing & Sales, Video Conferencing, and Entrepreneurship.  Creation Station users will find a welcoming home with many of the tools needed to connect virtually and face-to-face.  Volunteers are needed to teach classes in emerging technologies, business, and entrepreneurship, host/plan networking events, operate a recording studio, coach entrepreneurs, provide business expertise, and mentoring.  To apply, call 954-357-7175, or email amentore@broward.org.

OASIS Connections

It’s hard to get by in today’s world without strong computer skills. You can help people overcome their fear of technology, acquire the skills they need to stay up-to-date in the workplace, keep in touch with family and friends, and be engaged in the community.

OASIS Connections is a curriculum of computer courses designed to build skills and confidence using computers, the Internet and portable devices. Classes are held at various Broward County library locations, and cover such topics as "Email, Internet and WiFi," Computer, Windows 7 and 10, Microsoft Office, Facebook, iPad, iPhone, Android tablet and Android phone.

You don’t have to be a computer “guru” to participate in the OASIS Connections program, but a good working knowledge of how to use a computer is important. We will train you to teach and provide the course manuals and support you need. The only other requirements are enthusiasm and patience! Your payment will be the smiles and words of appreciation you’ll receive from the fellow residents you help. For more information or to apply, call 954-357-7175, or email amentore@broward.org
