Local Law

The Reference Section, located on the fifth floor of the Broward County Main Library, maintains a collection of the law materials of the State of Florida. The collection includes the following major categories of law:

  • Statutory Law:  laws enacted by the Florida Legislature
  • Administrative Law
Executive:  Governor’s Proclamations and Executive Orders
Administrative:  rules and decisions of Florida’s administrative agencies
  • Case Law:  court opinions
Legal resources include:

Broward County Code, containing the text of the ordinances enacted by the Broward County Board of County Commissioners.

Broward County Administrative Code, containing the regulations of the Broward County administrative agencies.

Florida Supplement, containing a few of the precedent-setting opinions of the courts and circuit courts. (It should be noted, however, that most cases heard by the lower courts are not reported and can only be found by visiting the courthouses in which the cases were heard.)
