Verse and History Come Together at Broward County Library
With both National Poetry Month (April) and Florida Heritage Month (March 15-April 15) celebrations coming up, spring is the perfect time to explore the poetry and poets of Florida in addition the state’s rich history. From sweeping sagas of the River of Grass to the works of Richard Blanco, poetry and poets in Florida are as varied and unique as the state itself.
Broward County Libraries offers resources for both poetry and history lovers, as well as those who may be a little of both. Enjoy Florida Heritage Month programs that honor Viva Florida 500 (www.Vivaflorida.org), a statewide initiative celebrating 500 years of Florida history. Children, teens and adults are all invited to special Poetry Month events that include a celebration of local poets, “pirate” poetry, poetic storytimes and more.
