Young teen holding her arms behind her back, standing and looking up with a smile.Whether playing games or reading for fun, enjoy yourself at Broward County Library!

“It Came from the Library!” is the theme for this year’s Teen Read Week™ (Oct. 14-20). Broward County Library and the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA) dare you to read for the fun of it! Teen Read Week is a time to celebrate reading for entertainment and encourage teens to take advantage of reading in all its forms —books, magazines, e-books, audiobooks and more — and become regular library users. It is celebrated in public and school libraries, classrooms and bookstores worldwide with activities, events and programs created especially to spark teen’s imagination and creativity.

Why is it important to celebrate? Teens have so many options for entertainment, it's important to remind them to spend time reading for pleasure: Reading is free, fun and can be done anywhere!

According to YALSA’s website, research shows that teens who read for fun have better test scores and are more likely to succeed in the workforce. Although most teens realize the importance of reading, with so many activities and options to choose from, reading gets lost in the shuffle. Reading skills get rusty when they are not used. Keep them honed by visiting your library and selecting from thousands of free books and materials including graphic novels, hot bestsellers and favorite “Young Adult” titles. At Broward County Library, there is always something new to read.
