Michael J. Kerr oversees the Commercial and Construction Section of the Office of the County Attorney. His practice includes complex construction claims and litigation, complex commercial litigation, and negotiation and contract drafting for significant commercial transactions. Mr. Kerr also provides legal counsel regarding construction and transactional matters to the Public Works Department, the Aviation Department, the Port Everglades Department, the Office of the County Auditor, and the Office of the County Administrator.

While with the County Attorney’s Office, Mr. Kerr has been lead counsel in numerous multi-million-dollar claims involving construction projects, software and hardware contracts, and commercial transactions. In September 2013, Mr. Kerr was awarded “Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award” for his assistance to the United States Attorney’s Office and Federal Bureau of Investigation in “Operation Let There Be Lights.” This investigation resulted in the uncovering of fraudulent billing by a construction company working for the County and thereafter, a restitution order of approximately $3 million in favor of the County.
